Amitai Aricha: The Legacy and Peace of Yemenite Jewish Music

March 23, 2026

Amitai Aricha traces his Yemenite Jewish roots back to his family’s 1912 migration to Hadera. After discovering the powerful, vibrating chants of his grandfather's synagogue, he dedicated his life to the "Diwan"—a collection of sacred Yemeni and Golden Age Spanish poetry. Aricha explains the traditional absence of instruments in Jewish music as a sign of mourning and discusses his modern artistic choice to re-introduce them. Ultimately, he presents Yemenite music as a "space of peace" where Hebrew, Arabic, and Aramaic converge to break down cultural barriers.
